Thought today was the day.....

Wednesday, March 31, 2010 0
to find out about my entry into the NYC lottery....but apparently it's April 7.

Someone might have to remind me to check on April 7th!

I have read that on average, it takes 3 years to get a NYC marathon lottery acceptance, so honestly, I don't think this is the year, but we shall see.......stay tuned!

Think Local

Tuesday, March 30, 2010 0

In my recent travels to Nova Scotia, I was introduced to the WONDERFUL Two if By Sea Cafe. In a nutshell, I loved it. It had such wonderful local flavour. and by local I mean, makes pastries on site, is homey, and has a wonderful "slow food" feel. If you are in downtown Dartmouth, this is a MUST visit.

For some reason, this place made me think more about the slow food movement, and eating "local". One of my goals for the upcoming Spring and Summer is to buy and eat more locally grown produce.

There are a few options, even here, in our cold North Atlantic climate
1. The St. John's Farmers Market - a leisurely Saturday morning outing.

2. Lester's Farm Market - with in-season produce

3. The Organic Farm

and given that the slow food movement was founded in Italy, perhaps we will have to check something out there!

World's Most Interesting Races (in my opinion!)

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 1

1. Not Since Moses - Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia

How cool is this? A run across the ocean floor during low, low tide in Fundy. I want to do this!

2. Great Wall of China Marathon

Clearly no one would actually RUN this at a race pace, unless they were crazy. I'm thinking more of a run/walk combo, since there are so many stairs. This is a marathon that you do for cultural experiences (at least, that's why I would do it).

3. Empire State Building - Run-Up

Yet another interesting thing to do in New York City!!! I don't know if I would actually want to do this race, but the concept is great, and I love the photo on their Web site!! I also love these photos on the New York Road Runners Web site.

4. Marathon du Medoc - a wine tasting marathon.

Not that I think I could actually run a marathon and also drink wine, but just imagine the experience. This run goes through FIFTY TWO vineyards. yup.

What do you think is the world's most interesting race?????????

New York Adventures

Thursday, March 18, 2010 0
There are a million things to do in New York City.

This adventure is on my "hope to do" list for the marathon trip - the question is, pre or post marathon?

The New York Trapeze School has outdoor trapeze classes in Hudson River Park, which is where I would ideally like to go - I mean, just look at this!

However, in the winter they use an indoor location. Maybe this calls for 2 trips to NYC???
I think this picture needs to go on my new inspiration wall, which is hopefully going up this weekend!

Smorgasbord

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 0
Hmmmm I'm feeling out of the blogging loop. Life has been very busy these past few weeks, with a weekend trip (FUN!) followed by a weekend of paper-writing (NOT so fun!)

Here's a variety of things that have been happening in my life, that I feel like sharing:

1. In between schoolwork, I'm currently reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" - An amazing read, I highly recommend it. I really am having a hard time putting the book down. Read the NY Times book review to find out more! Sometimes, when things are crazy, it's really nice to curl up for a few minutes with a book and a cup of green tea with honey.

2. I will find out my entry status for the NYC marathon at the end of this month!

3. Steve made an amazing chilli this weekend. This is not usually something that we have on a regular basis, but it's so easy, tastes great, and makes lot's to go in the freezer for all those busy nights! We will be having it more often!

4. Sometimes the best thing about running is that it means you don't worry too much about what you eat. These study snacks appeared for me this weekend, and I enjoyed every bite as I made my way through writing a 20-pager. mmm mmm.

5. Two weekends ago (how times flies!) I was in Halifax. While in Halifax we went to the superstore that is Bed, Bath and Beyond. Here, I discovered my new love - the Shiatsu Back Massage chair. If anyone would like to buy me an expensive gift, this is it!!!!

NYC Marathon

Tuesday, March 2, 2010 0
Less than a month until I find out about my standing in the NYC lottery!

I found this cool video that "runs" through the full marathon course (at a faster speed of course!)
